Bulldog Basketball Bounces Away

The basketball season has come and gone in Anton, Texas but the school is still very proud and pleased with how the Bulldogs and Lady Dawgs did. The girls and boys teams gave it everything they had all year and it was rewarded by two very successful seasons. The Bulldogs were undefeated District Champions and Area Champions, ending the season with an overall record of 22-7. Also 6 out of 8 players were rewarded with a district achievement. Defensive MVP of the district was Canan Wood, Offensive MVP was Zach Matthews, and the Newcomer of the Year was Javier Savedra. William Cole, Jon Paul Lorenz, and Jordan Haston were awarded All-District Honors and Rigo Barrera was an All-District Honorable Mention. The Lady Dawgs were co-District Champs and Regional Finalists, ending their long season 23-7. They had an amazing playoff run this year and made it farther than any other Anton girls team before, except for the 2008 Lady Dawgs team. District Honors were also very good for the girls as Britni Parker was the District MVP, and Emily Buchanan, Layna Clardy, and Chanci Harvey were awarded All-District Honors with Mariah Jiminez as All-District Honorable Mention. Both teams will be losing very good basketball players and big leaders in school and out of school. The Bulldogs and Lady Dawgs will both be losing 4 seniors but, as the honors awarded show, they will have plenty of fire power back next year.
